    Programming Languages Popular Among Developers

Do you know how many programming languages there are in the world?

It is challenging to provide exact and up-to-date data on the number of programming languages, but Bill Kinnersley’s list indicates that approximately 2500 programming languages are documented. Nevertheless, it is crucial to acknowledge that only some of these languages are actively utilized.

The oldest programming language is FORTRAN (short for FORmula TRANslation), which was created by John Backus and first launched for commercial use in 1957. It paved the way for many subsequent programming languages.

As for recent additions to the programming language landscape in 2023, three examples are Penny, Dart, and F#. However, it’s worth mentioning that developing and introducing new programming languages is an ongoing process, and the list may continue to expand over time.

    What is a programming language?

A programming language is a set of instructions and syntax to write software programs that tell computers how to perform specific tasks and manipulate data effectively. Programming languages gain popularity when they offer solutions to particular industry paradigm shifts, leading to their widespread adoption within the development community.

Over the years, specific programming languages have gained significant popularity and are widely used globally.

According to Statista, the top 15 programming languages are Kotlin, Rust, Go, Powershell, C, PHP, C++, C#, Bash/Shell, Java, Typescript, Python, SQL, HTML/CSS, and Javascript.

If you want to explore the top 15 programming languages, Moonpreneur brings statistics reflecting their popularity and widespread use. Watch the video for valuable insights into the current landscape of programming languages.

The video shows JavaScript, HTML/CSS, SQL, Python, and TypeScript have consistently held the top five positions in terms of usage and demand.

JavaScript is perched on the top with a usage share of 65.36%, followed by HTML/CSS at 55.08% and SQL at 49.43%.

The languages which are in the bottom three positions, based on the data, are Kotlin (9.16%), Rust (9.32%), and Go (11.15%). These languages have a smaller share of usage than others on the list.

Absolutely! Java and Kotlin are popular choices for Android app development, while Swift is the go-to language for iOS apps.

SQL (Structured Query Language) is essential for interacting with databases and retrieving information. Python with libraries like NumPy and Pandas is another popular combination for data analysis and manipulation.
