What do they want from you when you apply to a 276-year-old university? I’m referring to Princeton University, one of the Ivy League schools that has stood the test of time.
Well! They seek students with intellectual curiosity, academic proficiency, and significant personal and extracurricular achievements.
They are interested in hearing your true tale. They want to know your unique selling point and how you used your chances and resources to flourish over the school year.
Suppose you want to win the admissions race. In that case, you must ensure that your application highlights your leadership activities, extracurricular involvements, employment, and home duties reflecting your accomplishments and potential.
The Princeton admissions process is straightforward yet rigorous. So we’ve put up this admissions guide to assist you in your endeavors.

Part 1: Application Form and other documents
Common Application
If you want to apply, complete the application form and submit it online using the Common Application. This is the first section of the application form.
The Princeton Supplement
Part two requires applicants to submit the Princeton Supplement online via the Common Application website. You will be tackling short answer and essay questions here. The extra essays present the admissions staff with a personal and detailed portrayal of you.
Grade Written Papers/Essay
This is part three of the Princeton application. The paper should have been written for an academic subject, ideally English, social studies, or history, during the final three years of secondary school, including senior year.
Send a one-to-two-page paper, essay, research paper, or essay exam. The admissions committee will review it to evaluate your expository rather than creative writing.
The paper should include the course teacher’s grade and any comments offered by your instructor.
Fee Waiver
If you have any fee waiver, you have to submit the details with the application.
Part II: The school section
You have to provide the following information from the school to complete your application form.
Transcript
The first thing is the transcript. You must provide an official transcript sent by the counselor or official of all colleges/universities you have attended. Remember, you do not have to mail them or have your university send them directly to Graduate Admission.
Admissions officers use it to calculate your GPA. The average GPA at Princeton is 3.9, making the competition highly competitive.
School Report (SR)
GPA Distribution | Percent Admitted |
---|---|
4.0 | 68.41% |
3.75-3.9 | 25.40% |
3.50-3.75 | 3.70% |
3.25-3.49 | 1.75% |
This is an online form available on the Common Application website. This has to be filled out and submitted by your school counselor or other school officials.
Suppose your school needs a university adviser. In that case, you can approach a school official such as a principal, vice principal, or dean to complete your School Report, available on the Common Application.
Counselor Recommendation
If you use the Common Application online, please note that the SR and the Counselor Recommendation are separate items.
However, you must “invite” your school counselor or academic adviser to complete both items.
Recommendations from 2 teachers
You will also be required to guide two of your teachers. To complete and submit the forms accessible on the Common Application website, you must select two of your teachers who have taught you in higher-level courses in distinct academic fields such as English, language, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and math.
Midyear School Report
It is mandatory to submit your Midyear School Report. You must ask your school counselor or other school official to complete and submit this form when your midyear grades are available.
Part III: Standardized Tests (SAT/ACT) not required
For fall 2023, 2024, and 2025 application cycles, we will not need to submit standardized test scores; this includes transfer candidates.
Part IV: Extracurricular Activities
The university seeks well-rounded students who are passionate about learning beyond academics. It’s essential to have a strong history of involvement in sports, music, theater, community service, and other activities, preferably with leadership positions and positive contributions.
