    There are many myths and misconceptions about almost everything in life, including technical skills. When it comes to coding, there are plenty of myths about coding and misconceptions out there that can be quite discouraging.

    One of the most common myths about coding is that it’s only for geniuses or “brainy” people or women who are a misfit in coding.  It’s important to recognize that coding is a skill that anyone can learn, regardless of their gender or any other demographic characteristic.

    Myth 1: Coding is only for intelligent children 

    One of the most common myths about coding is that it’s only for brainy people. What matters most is interest.

    Myth 2: Coding is suitable for the male child

    Unfortunately, there is still a myth about coding that girls are misfits in coding. Indeed, women are disproportionately missing out on the ongoing boom in IT jobs. According to data from Zippia, as of 2022, women make up 47% of all employed adults in the US but hold only 28% of computing and mathematical roles. 

    However, this does not mean that girls can’t learn to code. Any gender can handle any task effectively and productively.

    Myth 5: Coding is too boring for kids

    Many parents believe coding is complicated because of its broadness and complexity, making it a boring subject. However, coding can be completely free of boredom. 

    It provides a big platform for kids to play, have fun, and enjoy themselves. By offering engaging activities, coding can pique their interest, creativity, and love for computer science.

    But the fact is that you do not need expensive equipment and materials to learn to code. It is cost-effective and affordable. Coding is more accessible in the modern era. With the increasing availability of online resources and free coding tools, children can receive proper coding training without breaking the bank.

    Myth 7: Coding increases screen time

    Undoubtedly, it is a coding myth that learning code increases screen time for children. Many parents are unaware that coding actually helps their children spend less time on the screen. How?

Successful coding projects require effective communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities. Additionally, many coders engage in online communities and attend tech events to network and learn from others.

    Contrary to the belief, coding not only enhances technical skills but also fosters social skills by promoting teamwork, encouraging the free expression of thoughts, and facilitating knowledge sharing.

    Myth 10: Coding will turn children into a human-machine 

    Of course, programmers work on computers, but that does not mean they have to stare at the screen 24×7. In reality, they use a computer to write coding languages to input the instructions and commands. 

    Beyond that, they use their minds to organize, plan, and create the whole system of instructions. They need to be creative and perform trial and error. They also attend workshops and meetings to collaborate with others, expand their horizons, and innovate new things.

    Therefore, no clear evidence exists that your child will become a “human machine” once they enter the programming world.
