Addition

Addition is a basic mathematical operation that combines two or more numbers to find their total or sum. It is represented by the plus sign (+) and is used to find out how much we have when we put things together.

Here’s a fun story about two friends named Alex and Mia to help you understand what addition is all about.

Alex and Mia were at a candy store, and they both had some candies. Alex had 3 candies, and Mia had 4 candies. They wanted to know how many candies they had together, so they decided to use addition.

LEARN MORE ABOUT Addition

So, Alex started with 3 candies, and Mia had 4 candies. To find the total number of candies they had together, they used addition. They combined candies from Alex and Mia, counting each candy they put in the treasure box.

They started with Alex’s candies: 1, 2, 3. Then, they added Mia’s candies: 4, 5, 6, 7. They kept counting as they added the candies one by one. And guess what? They had a total of 7 gems together!

In this story, addition helped Alex and Mia find out how many candies they had when they put their candies together. The plus sign (+) showed that they were adding the numbers to find the sum.

Just like Alex and Mia collected gems to know their total, we use addition to find the total of numbers. It’s a handy math skill to know when we want to find out how much we have when we combine different things, like candies, toys, or even apples.
