Step 1: <\/b>Identify the nearest base. In this case, we can choose 500 as our base since it is near to 456.<\/span><\/p>

Step 2: <\/b>Decompose the numbers based on the chosen base.<\/span><\/p>

456 can be decomposed as 500 – 44.<\/span><\/p>

789 can be decomposed as 500 + 289.<\/span><\/p>

Step 3: <\/b>Perform addition and subtraction.<\/span><\/p>

500 – 44 + 500 + 289<\/span><\/p>

Step 4: <\/b>Simplify the calculation.<\/span><\/p>

500 + 500 = 1000<\/span><\/p>

-44 + 289 = 245<\/span><\/p>
