Here’s how you can apply this sutra:
Let’s take an example to illustrate the process. Suppose we want to multiply 42×44
Step 1: Find out the working base of the numbers
Multiplication 10 x 4 = 40
Division 100/2 = 50
Step 2: Find out the surplus numbers
42 surplus number 2
44 surplus number 4
Step 3: Do the cross-addition of the numbers
Answer: 46
Step 4: Now multiply Step 3. The answer with the working base number is 4
46×4= 184
Step 5: Multiply the surplus numbers vertically
2×4=8
Step 6: Append the Step 4 and 5 answers to get your final answer, 1848
