Why do we place so much emphasis on encouraging women to pursue STEM? According to an MIT survey, women make up only 28% of all STEM jobs globally. One strategy to address this disparity is to offer college scholarships specifically for female students pursuing STEM subjects.

The United States is ranked second most technologically advanced country. But do you know what percentage of girls pursue STEM in college? According to Girls Who Code, just 0.4% of female high school students pursue STEM in college, despite the fact that 74% of middle school girls expressed interest in STEM and careers.
And do you know only 23% of American employees are females in STEM professions, despite the country being one of the epicenters of the technological revolution?
Unbelievable! But it is a fact.
In Europe, the situation is not much better; women make up only 19.1% of the information and communication technology (ICT) sector.
World Bank estimates that women make up less than a third of the workforce worldwide in occupations related to technology. Women have 15.9% of all employment in the engineering and architectural industries, compared to 28% of all computer and mathematics occupations.
Additionally, there is a 14% disparity in wages. Women in STEM fields make $0.86 for every dollar earned by a man, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce.
These uninspiring findings notwithstanding, initiatives are being made to support women in technology. Scholarship is a real step in that direction.
These data led to the introduction of various scholarships to encourage women to pursue STEM. The primary focus of this blog is Awesome Scholarships for Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM ).
