3D Mechanical Design for kids has emerged as one of the very innovative methods which prompted us at Moonpreneur to launch a summer course of 4 weeks under MoonCamp to help kids of age 7 to 16 years gain experience and expertise in this futuristic field!
In this article, we’ll look at the fundamentals of the 3D Mechanical Design course, which will be taught in MoonCamp in the most funloving and interesting way ever!!
1. Install and Explore
Kids can start a 3D mechanical design project with 3D design software to make 3D models of different sizes and shapes with bevels and cavities.
2. Learn 3D Sketching and Measurements On Paper
At MoonCamp, we encourage children to sketch out their 3D design ideas and take measurements on paper before using software that can help them visualize and plan their projects better. This stage is crucial for a clear understanding of the design process.
3. Import Custom Design and Edit (STL, OBJ, SVG formats)
Kids are taught to download pre-made designs from websites like Thingiverse in file types such as STL, OBJ, or SVG to modify or create entirely new designs, which can be an excellent way to gather ideas for their projects and start the design process.
4. Learn Through Product Development Kits
At MoonCamp, we use Product Development Kits, which allow children to learn about the 3D design process by assembling pre-made components to create a product, discovering how the parts fit together, and changing the design to make something unique. This provides knowledge of the procedure for creating products and an engineering experience.
5. 3D Design Advanced Exercises
Advanced 3D design exercises, such as creating designs for specific functions or designing complex assemblies with moving parts, can challenge children to think creatively and problem-solve while understanding the importance of precision and accuracy in design and manufacturing.
