The United States, often called the land of opportunities, is home to the largest immigrant population in the world, with over 45 million individuals.
Many skilled professionals from various parts of the globe come to the United States with ambitious aspirations, and they have the opportunity to work here after obtaining an H-1B visa.
The H-1B visa is a nonimmigrant work visa that permits US employers to hire foreign workers possessing specialized skills for a specific time. According to data released by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, individuals born in India have been granted the highest number of H-1B visas since 2007.
Regarding the number of H-1B applications filed between 2007 and 2021, India leads the way with 157,608 applicants. Surprisingly, China comes in second with 26,370 applications during the same period.
The other countries on the list are the Philippines, South Korea, Canada, Taiwan, Mexico, and Brazil. As the years grew, the count increased, and India maintained the first position of the highest applications.
In 2020, India continued to bag the highest number of 3,19,494 applications, and China scored the second position with 51,597.
During fiscal year 2021, individuals from India secured a record-breaking number of 3.01 million H-1B visas.

The surge in H-1B visa applications from India is primarily attributed to the significantly higher wages earned by H-1B visa holders compared to the median income.
This factor significantly amplifies the importance of this visa category, as it provides access to one of the most financially rewarding job markets for immigrants from developing countries.
